Adi Barel

B’nai Mitzvah Program Leader

Adi Barel, is a fourth year student at York University, studying Psychology and Jewish Education. She was born in Israel and came to Canada when she was 11. Adi has taught at Bialik Hebrew Day School and Beth Tzedec and does private tutoring. She is also a highly active member of the GTA Israeli Scouts, and received the Lieutenant Governor’s Community Volunteer Award for 990 hours of volunteering during her high school years. She enjoys hiking, playing the piano and reading Hebrew poetry, and when she ‘grows up’ she plans to be a school psychologist. She has three beautiful mini poodles and one furious beta fish, and some of the top items on her bucket list are to do the EdgeWalk around the CN Tower and climb Peru’s Machu Picchu.

Adi is thrilled and excited to lead the Bnei Mitzvah group at Habonim this year and meet all of the wonderful families that are associated with this program. The main focus this year will be Tikkun Olam, a Jewish value that is very dear to Adi’s heart. Tikkun Olam asks that we envision and act to achieve an ideal society via acts of social justice and Tzedakah. The Bnei Mitzvah will explore both ancient and recent Jewish History, volunteer within their community, become familiarized with some of the most intriguing stories of our Torah and create their own personalized Talits.
