Rabbi Audrey Kaufman
Rabbi Audrey Kaufman
Rabbi / Spiritual Leader

Rabbi Audrey is a long-time colleague of our Religious Leader, Eli Rubenstein, and our Senior Cantor & Choir Director, Rabbi Cantor Aviva Rajsky, and will be joining them on the bimah together with Associate Cantor Kim Doron. She is a warm, relationship-centered leader who connects with the entire congregation — especially our youngest members.
Born and raised in Ottawa, she and her family were active members of Agudath Israel, a traditional Conservative synagogue. Her love of chazzanut grew out of her family’s Shabbat z’mirot and listening to her father lead services.
After moving to Toronto to study nursing, Rabbi Audrey built a diverse career as a Registered Nurse, including work in the ICU at Mount Sinai Hospital — experience that deeply informs her pastoral care.
She continued to pursue Jewish music, singing in several choirs, including at Beth Sholom Synagogue, and studied with distinguished cantors Louis Danto and David Bagley, z”l.
She served for 10 years at Temple Sinai and has led High Holiday services across Canada and the U.S. in Reform, Reconstructionist, and Conservative congregations.
Together with Eli, she accompanied a March of the Living Toronto contingent as musical leader for “Expression Through Song,” and has performed often at Baycrest for residents and families.
On June 18, 2019, Rabbi Audrey was ordained by the Mesifta Adas Wolkowisk Rabbinical Academy in New York.
Since 2004 she has been affiliated with Am Shalom Congregation in Barrie, serving as Cantor, Rabbi, and Spiritual Leader, teaching in the Jewish Heritage School and sharing her music with the community.
“Come for the service and stay for the community.” — Rabbi Audrey looks forward to welcoming you at Habonim.

NovNovember 20 , 2025Sandwich Making For Seeds of Hope
Thursday, Nov 20th 10:30a to 12:30p
With inflation, the housing crisis in Toronto and the buckling of our shelter system, the need to help the marginalized has never been greater. Once again, we are coming together in the Habonim kitchen once a week throughout the cold months to make sandwiches and snack bags that we will then deliver to Seeds of Hope for distribution. They do some amazing work with those living 'rough' but they are having trouble keeping up with demand. So come as much or as little as you can, but come! If you would like to help, please register. -
