As mentioned in my sermon on Friday night, there are at least some 150 people still missing in the tragic collapse of the condominium in Surfside, Florida.
This is an area with a large Jewish population, where many of us no doubt have friends or relatives or know others that do.
My friend Rabbi Eliot Pearlson is the Rabbi of Temple Menorah, that at this point is missing 11 of their members, including three generations of one family.
See Rabbi Eliot Pearlson's moving interview with CNN here:
Rabbi Pearlson has asked us to say prayers for all the rescue workers - the firefighters and police (now joined by a team of Israeli search-and-rescue specialists) - who are risking their lives in the search effort.
He has also collected the names of the members of the Jewish community - including where possible their Hebrew names - that are still missing, and would like us to say tefilot for them as well. Please see email below from Rabbi Pearlson that I received on Sunday morning.
Let us hope and pray for the rescue workers, and for all the victims and for their families who are in waiting, that they will soon learn of the fate of their lost family members.
