FROM SURVIVAL
TO STRENGTH

Ela Levgoren’s Journey from October 7 to Healing

October 24, 2025 6pm

At Habonim's Kabbalat Shabbat
5 Glen Park Avenue, Toronto

During this special Kabbalat Shabbat, Ela spoke openly and honestly about what she had experienced, how those moments shaped her in the months that followed, and the insights she gained on her journey of healing.

Her presentation created a powerful space for compassion, reflection, and awareness, while honouring the memory of her friends and all the beautiful lives lost that day.

About This Talk

Ela survived the Nova Festival massacre on October 7, an event that profoundly altered the course of her life. In the months that followed, she began a difficult journey of mourning, healing, and rebuilding.

Her presentation at Habonim offered the community a deeper understanding of the human impact of that day — the emotional complexities of trauma, and the extraordinary strength required to move forward while continuing to seek light in the darkest of circumstances.

My goal is not only to tell my story, but to speak as a voice for those who no longer can.

Reflections From Eli Rubenstein

Over my 36 years plus years at Habonim, I have had the opportunity to participate in many moving programs and learn from many dynamic speakers.

Last month I listened to 25 year old Israeli Canadian Ela Levgoren a survivor of the horrific Nova Music Festival massacre of October 7, 2023, speak at our Habonim Kabbalat Shabbat Service.

I must say it was one of the most extraordinarily eloquent speeches I have heard at Habonim or elsewhere.

Ela shared her memories of that day, her harrowing journey of survival, and her commitment to honouring the lives of her young friends who never made it home that fateful day. Through her storytelling, we witnessed not only the tragedy of Nova - but also the unbreakable spirit of those who, like Ela, continue to dance, live, and hope for peace.

Ela’s presentation is just over 50 minutes and concludes with a deeply touching song that Ela wrote and performed in the aftermath of her experience.
