With great anticipation, we are now preparing to return to our beautiful sanctuary. After a year and half of physical separation from our synagogue and from one another, we very much look forward to gathering together to welcome in the new year, even with the necessary limitations as outlined below. Things will look different than they have in the past, but we know that the feeling of belonging and inclusion that defines Habonim will very much be intact whether you choose to attend in person or from home.
While it is always possible that Covid restrictions (and our plan) may change, we wanted to share our intentions with you now so that you can think about how you and your family would like to participate in this year’s High Holiday services. All six of our High Holiday services over Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur will be live streamed as they were last year. However, this year we are also planning to invite every congregant to attend ONE service in-person, which you will pre-select. While we will do our very best to accommodate your first choice and group extended families together, you will be asked to provide alternate selections as well. Our first priority is to keep everyone healthy, and provide a safe and meaningful experience regardless of how you choose to attend this year’s services. In order to enter the doors of Habonim, full vaccination (two doses and waiting period) is required for all attendees including congregants, volunteers and professionals. In the spirit of our community, and in the faith and trust we have in each other, we will not be requiring proof of vaccination but will instead be relying on the honour system. We will be following all Government and Ministry of Health Covid related protocols including masking for everyone while in the building (except for the clergy and choir), and a self-assessment prior to attendance. In order to facilitate proper distancing, we will be limiting attendance at each service to 25-30% of capacity, and implementing spacing in seating. You may only come for the ONE in-person service as designated on your ticket. Our volunteer-ushers will ensure there is open space of six feet or more created between household units. The success of this year’s services will depend upon everyone’s cooperation as we once again navigate uncharted territory. We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
Engaging family services will once again be led by Mark, Josh and Shaina. Since children under 12 are not yet able to be vaccinated, we cannot offer in-person family services in the sanctuary at this time, only live streamed services. We are however considering offering an outdoor tented service on Day 1 Rosh Hashanah and the day of Yom Kippur, depending on the interest level.
Tickets for on-line services will be offered to non-members as they were last year. More detailed information regarding service times, safety protocols, registration and the purchase of non-member virtual tickets will follow in the next few weeks. Please note that if you have not yet paid your dues you will not be eligible to register for any services. If you have any questions, please contact the office.
