Join world renowned scholar and historian, Dr. Michael Berenbaum, on his assessment of the current rising tide of antisemitism. 
Michael Berenbaum is a renowned writer, lecturer and teacher. He is the Director of the Sigi Ziering Institute: Exploring the Ethical and Religious Implications of the Holocaust and a Professor of Jewish Studies at the American Jewish University and the author and editor of 20 books, and scores of scholarly articles and  journalistic pieces. 

Michael was also the Executive Editor of the Encyclopaedia Judaica. He was Project Director overseeing the creation of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the first Director of its Research Institute. He later served as President and CEO of the Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation, involving the testimony of 52,000 Holocaust survivors in 32 languages in 57 countries.

His work in film has won Emmy Awards and Academy Awards.

He will be interviewed by Eli Rubenstein, Religious Leader of Congregation Habonim.

Thursday, June 24, 2021, the first ever international Holocaust Survivor Day, honours the resilience, courage and contributions of Holocaust Survivors.

Also today, a special 25 minute documentary - Witness: Passing the Torch of Holocaust Memory to New Generations -  directed by Toronto filmmaker Naomi Wise will premiere. Many of the survivors featured in the film are from Toronto - including Judy Cohen, Max Eisen, Bill Glied Z”L, Pinchas Gutter, Nate Leipciger & Sally Wasserman - and have also spoken at Habonim. The film will be broadcast all over the world on i24 News, as well as on Youtube.

A note from The Jewish Heritage School

We've extended the early bird special to June 11th and we'd love for you to join us!
Our program is based on creative and inclusive learning, and focuses on Jewish living, Jewish studies, and basic Hebrew conversation skills. We offer exciting chugim (electives) - this past year (while online) we did Jewish cooking, exploring Israel, Jewish pirates, comic making, and more! We plan to be in-person in the shul and outdoors in the fall, and will adjust based on health recommendations.

If you are a high school student interested in volunteering for us as an assistant in class, please contact Mira  Lyonblum, Director of Education  habonimschool@gmail.com.    You can help to create and run programming for kids, share your Jewish learning, and get volunteer hours!
